alright, damn, has been 3 days since i last blogged. erm these few days have been roughly the same, working and watching VCDs at home. i realised i've been watching a lot of VCDs recently. Constantine, The School of Rock, Twin Effect 2, The Longest Yard, etc.
anyway, today was last OGL meeting before OGL camp. kinda disappointing i must say, especially attendance and there was once where there was only 6 people in my entire OG! crap manz, sometimes really wonder how come people go through so much to be OGL, yet dun commit fully to it. i actually took leave today to go for the meeting and there are people who leave halfway cause they wanted to meet their friends. seriously i think if i was in charge i would get them replaced manz, cause there are so many more eligible people out there who can be OGLs but due to some reasons are not. hopefully everything turns out well for us at OGL camp and the actual O1. sigh, dun wanna talk about it manz, sianz.
another sad thing is i have a damn lonely christmas eve this year. because i have to work. crap, who would buy VCDs on christmas eve? and she refused to let me chage to an earlier shift. so i have to stand there until 10pm and after which rush off to some changi chalet for my relatives christmas celebration. hopefully i can reach before 12am bahz. wanna countdown. and i also realised that i haven't done any christmas shopping cause my pay will only come on the 3rd of january. so the only thing i can do now is to borrow money from my mum(hopefully) and return her after i get my pay. or else by then i think all the christmas sale will be gone manz.
last thing i needa do. APPEALING FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN LEND ME A FUR COAT OR SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE A FUR COAT OR ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH FUR OR ANIMALS. IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT AND URGENT FOR MY COSTUME FOR ORIENTATION. PLEASE HELP ME ASK AROUND IF U KNOW OF SOMEONE WHO HAS THEM. THANKS.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don't necessarily want to go, but ought to be.

hey guys, i just realised peifen, the Y.E.S 9.33 DJ, has a blog. so in case u wanna see it, i've linked her le, although she doesn't know, haha. relised despite her gentle appearance, she's actually a soccer fan, or rather manchester united fan. i have nothing against manchester united, but i'm a chelsea fan in case anyone does not know, and chelsea has just won arsenal 2-0, sending them out of the title race. bye arsenal... anyway, i've just deleted a hostile comment from someone who calls himself "ALEX FERGUSON". so please do not attempt stupid gestures like these...haha.
quote of the day: difficulties increase the nearer we approach the goal.
Poetry in motion: Robben scores chelsea's first goal in their 2-0 win over arsenal at highbury.
Arsenal Wenger: C'mon gunners, this way out of the premiership title race.

this is the third day i'm working at super magahits and it's kinda getting boring, but i shall hold on for the money and considering it's a slack job. anyway, i kinda learned a few things while i'm there, or rather i observed some things.
1. aunties love korean serial drama
2. old uncles love classic movies like ben hur, treasure island, the ten commandments, etc
3. as much as i cannot believe, these classics are the best selling genre.
4. on the contrary, latest movies like anacondas:hunt for blood orchid, batman begins, spiderman 2 are not popular at all.
5. china products, although cheaper, are definitely of a lousy quality as i've seen many people come back saying their discs have no sound.
6. or rather, giant products are not very good as i've even seen someone who bought a DVD player coming back and demanding a refund.
7. it's boring shopping alone during lunch breaks.

ok for your info this was the magical rainbow that saved my wallet.

anyway main events for today was a nice and fruitful meeting for animagus. actually thought it might be a flop but it turned out well. finished banner and finalised cheers. even went out for lunch at pastamania after that, woohoo, animagus rocks!
den after that went to report for work at marina square. for those of you who don't know, i'm working as a promoter for mega superhits, selling VCDs and DVDs, etc at a section in Marina Square's Giant Supermarket. it was a damn slack job, all you gotta do tend to customers if they ask for help, stock take if needed, help customers find the products they need and the rest of the time will be talking amond ourselves or watch the show that's showing. i actually watched anaconda 3 times today. yup, den lunch was supposed to be half and hour but we took 45 minutes plus and u dun have to punch out, i.e. you get paid as you're having your meals. it's damn slack lahz, suitable for the humble pay of 5 dollars per hour. hope they post me back to bedok soon.
anyway, todays "quote of the day"

i've suddenly decided to be more interllectual and thus am going to start a "quote of the day" segment in my blog. here's today's quote of the day:
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

ok, enough of my pus-sy legs and gory pictures, shall now fast forward and go to the last 2 days when we were at phnom penh. was an unforgetable experience, especially for me.
firstly, we checked into a realy nice hotel, new york hotel, and met up with yong bin then. to my amazement, i realised that i have a room all to myself, only to be spoilt by samuel wang, who wanted to sleep with me. haha. den went for lunch at a really nice restaurant. next, we went to visit the royal palace and silver pagoda. not very interesting lahz and it took up the whole afternoon. at about evening, we went on a boat cruise on mekong river, now that rocks! the breeze was perfect, the view was perfect, the atmosphere was perfect, the people were perfect, (well at least most of them), and even the small drizzle made the cruise damn enjoyable. took lots of pictures with lots of weird poses. guess it was one of the highlighs of the trip for many of us. pictures below....
ok, after that was dinner at another seafood restauant and we went back to the hotel. this was the start of a super weird story. upon reaching the hotel, i realised i lost my wallet. now that's a super unfortunate thing to do in a foreign country. so i went to inform miss lim and she in turn informed mr punle, our guide. they checked the restaurant and realised it was not there and so we had to wait for the next day to check if it was on the bus. and trust me, i didn't have a good sleep that night.
so well the next day in the morning, after a buffet breakfast at the hotel, the bus arrived and me, mr hoe and mr punle went up to check the bus for my wallet. we checked every seat and even took the cushions out to check and we couldn't find it. that really spoilt my day. so i had no choice but to carry on with the trip and we went to the genocide museum next. it was a sick and gory place and the stories behind them were scary too. but it's a super long story of killing and more killing so i shall not mention it in my blog. yup, for those interested can go check up "khmer rouge" and not "moulin rouge"... ok... not funny...haha.
ok after that was lunch at a super posh restaurant and after i had my fill i decided to ask the teachers if they had kept my wallet, a thought that was on my mind the whole day. so i found mr shi and asked him why the teachers were not anxious at all in finding my wallet. why were they taking it as a joke and laughing about it. den after a while we took the talk outside as we didn't want too many people knowing what we were talking about. this was when the weirdest thing happened. i have no memories whatsoever of what happened at this point of time. no recollections, nothing!!! and the next thing i could recall was walking up the bus in sweat and falling asleep after that, uncontrolablly. and when i woke up, everyone was already shopping at the russian market and i could onyl see myself and mr shi in the bus. ok according to many people's stories this was what happened during the period where i could not remember a thing...
1. i was rolling on the floor.
2. i was screaming.
3. i grabbed my head
4. i shouted "why are u all laughing at me?"
5. i layed on the floor not wanting to move
and guess what, i totally could not remember what was happening at that time. so marcus's diagnosis of me was that either i was possessed by some super natural thing or i was overly saddened by the lost of my wallet that i couldn't remember a thing. they chose the believe the latter but i thought the former might make some sense too.
ok, because about 2 days before, while we were out to see the sunset, me and yongbin noticed a tree which resembled a woman very much and we started telling people about it. and i even went to imitate its actions. and guess what? the next day, yong bin fractured his wrist and that fateful event had to happen to me on the last day. and this could explain why i actually shouted,"why are u all laughing at me?". so people, dun play with these kinda thingy in future...wooooh, scary.
ok anyway, on the way to the airport, something magical happened! having lost all hopes of finding my wallet, i sat quietly at my seat, not talking much. at this moment, a rainbow appeared at the sky and everyone started taking photos of it. it was damn beautiful and someone once told me a rainbow means hope. and people were making fun saying maybe i'll find my wallet. and just at this point of time, shermaine screamed,"alan, is this your wallet?" !!!!!!!!!!!!!OMG, i got a shock lahz, but it was a happy and relieved shock...hahah ironic. and since then i started to believe that magical endings do happen once in a while. and it did happen to me on that day. but the weird thing was, we did check that seat in the morning only to find nothing there, how did it appear all of a sudden? and upon reaching the airport, i wanted to ask mr shi what happend at that period of time.
so i said" sir, i got something to ask you"
mr shi: no lahz, why would the teachers hide your wallet there?
this was the funny part, i wasn't even going to ask him if they kept the wallet there... but anyway, not gonna think about it anymore.
this roughly brings us to the end of the cambodia trip, and what better way to end of than having pictures to do the talking.

so well, day five of cambodia can be said to be one of the most fun days. we went well drilling, which was one of the most important tasks we were supposed to achieved. after marcus' and zuhao's description of the journey the night before, we were quite afraid of sitting at the back seat as we heard it was movable, squeezy and the back door even opened sometimes. but sad to say, travelling with a whole bunch of gals meant that the guys were gonna sit at the back. so well, eric, jonathan, bing yi and i had to squeeze ourselves into that small little seat at the back and we could hardly move. the ride started quite ok at first but when we turned into the smaller villages and paddy fields, things got a whole lot more interesting. think of it as a miniature rollercoaster, the only difference being u have to sit in it for about 40 minutes!!! if u had looked at the windscreen straight ahead, your view will be ground-sky ground-sky... the small van was seriously rocking manz... and the only sounds u could hear in the bus were the crazy laughter of the DJ of cambodian radio and our screams. i even knocked my head agaisnt the ceiling twice and mt face hit the seatin front once.
so finally we reached the small viallage that we are supposed to dig the well, only to realise that it's almost done. eric, samuel and i were given the jobs of washing the pipes they used for drilling and that was when i cut my hand. yup, but didn't wanna alert the rest. den the girls were busy folding origami and teaching the kids there english. everyone did their own part. and finally, after pumping air into the hole for a long time...
well done!!!!!!!!
yup, den we had lunch at med's house. ok med is prounced as "mud" and he has a good friend called pie. so together they are mudpie!!!! hahaha, ok not funny... anyway, his house was damn cute, it was a house on stilts and you can see everything underneath you. and med's mother was damn nice she helped us cook maggi mee. wonder if she's seen it all her life but it turned out quite well. and there was this little girl in the house that was totally cute and addicted to noodles and her mum said the girl doesn't like rice anymore...yup, here she is...
after that we went back but this time was damn sian already, just like how u will feel if u were to sit on a roller coaster for 1 hour. so amazingly we fell asleep. but halfway through the journey, a tragic thing happened. the lorry that was carrying the equiptment that was in front of us got stuck in some really thick and deep mud. so we had to help him push the lorry to get it started, so the stupid me stood behind the back wheel and my PE shorts instantly became so much nicer looking with the mud patches*yea right* and after that was done and we went back to our van, i realised my leg is bleeding from a cut from some unidentified thingy. den wondeful eric helped me to clean it up. oh yah, mentioning leg, i shall post how rotten my legs are tml, show some gory pictures, courtesy of suggestion by jia ming. yup, den after that was done and anther 1 hour of journey we finally arrived back at hope village. kinda forgot what happened that evening and night.
oh anyway, since the next few days are more or less the same stuff happening, i shall let pictures do the talking bahz.
finally found a picture of sok com!

After "someone" came to shut us all up, well done manz.
Look! that's "someone" with the monk!!! well done manz, nice dress sense too.
yup that's all for now, sorry that i didn't resize the pictures. so tml i'll just jump straight to the last day when we're at phnom penh. so long, farewell, it's time to say goodbye.

went to see a doctor today for my feet, and got a shock when the doctor said,"yours is a case of fungal infection, or otherwise known as foot-rot, but yours is quite a serious cae!" damn it, my feet are rotting cause of fungus, damn fungus!!!! now using some potassium permanganate wash and some anti fungal wash and anti-fungal tablets.... dunno whether can eat mushrooms anot.. haha...
well, day 4 of cambodia... finding it harder and harder to wake up le. had porridge for breakfast. den it was time for market visit!!! was really looking forward to it the day before. wanted to buy lots of stuff that can really represent cambodia. but got quite disappointed in the end. firstly, the time was too short for us to buy anything, as only 1 hour was allocated for each group, inclusive of walking time. Secondly, the girls were so busy looking for stuff like hairclips and accessories that we didn't really have time to shop. thirdly, Mr Hoe was busy looking for his banana and wasted a lot of time also.... so in the end, i only got to but three packs of sultana biscuits that were finished within 15 minutes after we went back to hope village.
afternoon's activity was area cleaning, nothing much to be mentioned, except for the fact that i'm supposed to clean the chapel. OMG, i think that's the dirtiest part of hope village. ok here's how it went, i spent about half an hour and finished sweeping the floor, and this little girl came and started cleaning the roof and all the dirt fell on the floor again.... tsk tsk tsk, another 15 minutes spent sweeping again, think i haven't done so much sweeping in my whole life manz.
next on the list was hell! it was time for sports and games, and anyone who knows us would have known how unprepared we are. and it turned out exactly unlike the way we planned. as one of the games orinally required balloons, we brought out one bag of balloons and that is the worst thing we did manz. the kids got crazy at the sight of balloons and the whole situation became a bit chaotic. the teachers seemed a bit pissed and dunno lahz, nothing to comment also, the day jus kinda sucks.
the best event happened at night in the girls room... between 4 girls and 4 guys... haha... it was survivor lahz. yup, we sort of dug out a board game that someone donated and played that at night while the others played monopoly. it was a tough 3 hour game, where we had to outwit, outplay and outlast each other. but the game is only fun the first time u play it. no wonder people donated it. well, here are the results of Survivor I...(in order of getting voted out)

you guys can't imagine how disgusting my toes have become since i returned from the trip, i guess at least 1 litre of pus have oozed out of the damn toe already... i've finally decided to see a doctor tml. back to cambodia 2005!
as zuhao requested, i shall mention the game we played on the 2nd night, which is the first night at hope village. it's ji ge ji ge dun zia lai(how many how many squat down). the rule of the game is that there will be two teams and alternately one member from each team will shout, "ji ge ji ge dun xia lai, X ge X ge dun xia lai)where X is any number between 0 to the total number of the opposing team members. if the number u shouted and the number of people who squated is the same, the team who shouted will get to request from one member of the opposing team to take off one piece of clothing. after about half an hour of competition between team 1(alan, marcus, zuhao) and team 2(yong bin, wen xiang, choon yong), this was what was left...
ok day 3 started with a pathetic breakfast. why it was pathetic was because it was actually rice with omelette. the reason it was pathetic was because the ratio of omelette to rice was approximately 1:100000000. reason being the first few people who woke up took a whole slice of omelette leaving us, the late wakers to be left with that little amount. a good illustration of the early bird gets the worm.
Next activity on the list was fence painting, nothing much to mention about. den it was lunch. surprisingly, lunch was quite nice. it was something like muchroom soup, combodian style. kinda enjoyed it. den it was slacking time again and i went to take my afternoon nap before arts and crafts started. i helped out with arts and crafts and hell, it took everything out of me, especially the youngest group of kids. communication is very important, i repeat, and please learn your khmer well before going there. realised sok com and sok ka(the famous twins) still remembered me and even rushed up for a hug. felt very loved. helped the kids with making some bookmarks. made one myself.
then, we had the best dinner in hope village of the 10 days. was some nice stew. thicky, creamy and sweet...yup, a great ending to a great day. starting to realise how each day passes so fast, without stress and worries.
played a game at night in the girls' dorm, whereby we had to give a multiple choice of 2 truths and 1 lie, and everyone else has to guess the lie. kinda bonded us together.

sigh... chien's left for taiwan and will only be back on 24th! and my leg's still suffering from the aftermath of ocip. wounds inflamed and pus oozing out, every step hurting me like free... but all these shall not undermine my fond memories of ocip at all. so here it is...
Day 2 started at 7am in the morning. we had to meet at the lobby for breakfast and breakfast was free and u had such a "wide" choice such that u can choose from baguette(ba kut teh...haha), pancake or noodles. no wonder it was free. we den went back up to our rooms and packed before loading everything up the bus for our trip to hope village, prey veng.
it was a damn long journey, and i tried to sleep to pass time faster. but when we reached the ferry stop, things got interesting. There were a whole lot of people selling weird stuff, lyk disgusting prawns, weird looking fruits, fertilised eggs(i almost bought that cause i thought they were normal duck eggs), etc and they were very desperate people. as the door of our bus was left open after people went to the toilet, they wanted to come up to ask us to buy. some even climbed up the bus to try to pull open our windows. dun think any of us bought anything in the end.
after crossing the river o the ferry and an hour's ride, we finally arrived at hope village. it was a decent looking building, and i was surprised at the response we were given. the kids lined the main building, 1st and 2nd floor and sort of surrounded our bus. i didn't know what they wanted and almost thought they were lyk those people at the ferry station. but i was damn wrong. they wanted so much to help us move our luggage and the boxes of donations. they had so much initiative, most probably many groups have come here b4. after everything was unloaded we went to have lunch. we learnt that the kids ate at a different place from us as we might be having different stuff. lunch was 'special". rice with vegetable soup!!! nothing else and little did i know that the next few days was going to be the same. didn't eat much cause wasn't very used to it. after that we started moving our luggage into the bunks. it was a nice place, built in an underground tunnel with three rooms. we slept on beds in air-conditioned rooms. that's the irony when we realised the kids sleep on non-airconditioned rooms and slept on wooden plank beds.
next was ice breakers. i got posted to the youngest group and they were damn cute!!! time for pictures...

this was when communication became a huge problem. the only english that was communicable between us was "what is your name?" and "how old are you?". the rest was up to sign language. but i would dare say we had a lot of fun and the main objective of ice-breaking was achieved.
the day became quite short after that, just some time for us to mix around and awful dinner again. but this time it was slightly better as it was winter melon soup with satay chicken we brought from singapore. starting to get used to the food.
yupyup, that's about the end of day 2. really long day. sorry i'm blogging so slowly, probably the next few days i'll blog 2 or 3 days in 1 day. now my leg's damn painful from the inflamation of my wound. now u know how deadly cambodia's hygiene is... till next time, bye bye
